Manipur BJP chief seeks rebel pardon

Imphal, Feb. 13: Thounaojam Chaoba Singh, president of the BJP?s Manipur unit, has appealed to a militant outfit to reconsider its decision to award him capital punishment and asked for forgiveness if it was offended by his actions. Last month, the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) had asked the state BJP leaders to expel Chaoba Singh from the party, saying the outfit had passed capital punishment on him.

SP escapes ambush

Imphal, Feb. 11: The Bishenpur superintendent of police escaped a militant ambush today but four of his escorts were hit by bullets. The injured included the driver of the vehicle. Five passersby, including a soldier on leave, were also injured in the crossfire.

Official sources said a police team, led by P. Dhanakumar Singh, the SP, was patrolling the Imphal-Churachandpur Road for Ibobi Singh?s convoy to pass through when the militants struck.

Three rebel groups plan trips to Delhi

New Delhi, Feb. 8: Back from another peacemaking mission to Bangkok, Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga said leaders of as many as three militant groups of the Northeast were expected to visit New Delhi within a month to begin negotiations with the Centre.

23 die in Manipur insurgency-related violence in Jan

MPHAL, Feb 4 ? As many as 23 persons have been killed in insurgency related violence in different parts of the State in the first month of the new year. The deaths occurred either during encounters between security personnel and insurgents or the victims were killed by unidentified armed persons. Students rally behind murder suspect

Jan. 16: A student organisation today took up cudgels on behalf of the Kuki tribesman who stands accused of masterminding the murder of Lunglina Elizabeth, saying he has been framed to malign the image of the community.
