Jawan killed, captain injured in Manipur ambush

IMPHAL, August 4: An Assam Rifles jawan was killed and a captain injured when armed activists launched an attack on the 8th Assam Rifles post at Toupokpi in Manipur's Bishenpur district on Tuesday night, official sources said on Wednesday. They said the attack took place around 1930 hours. The security personnel also fire back during the encounter which lasted for about 15 minutes. A jawan was killed on the spot and a Captain was seriously injured, they said. The militants escaped under the cover of darkness. Security forces have cordoned off nearby areas and launched a manhunt.

Magisterial inquiry into Manipur killings

IMPHAL, July 24: The Manipur government on Thursday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of five civilians by the Central Reserve Police force (CRPF) in Churachandpur on July 21, the state chief minister Wahengbam Nipamacha Singh told the House on July 22. The magisterial inquiry will be headed by the deputy commissioner of the district, Taranikanta. The report will be submitted within 15 days. Protest rally over PREPAK killing

IMPHAL, July 18 - In protest against the killing of excise superintendent T Babumacha by the proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) members, hundreds of protesters on Saturday last staged a mass rally here. The rally was, however, stopped by the police at Khwai Nagamapal. Later, the rallyists organised a meeting at Khurai Lamlong Bazar. Babumacha was kidnapped and killed by PREPAK activists on July 8 at Takyelpat about three km west of Imphal town.

CRPF camp attacked in Imphal West

Ihpal, July 17: Armed activists raided the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Khuman Lampak area in Manipur's Imphal West district on Saturday, official sources said. Imphal, July 15: Four persons, including three CRPF jawans were killed and three others seriously injured in an ambush by identified activists near Kangchip in Manipur's Imphal West district on Thursday, official sources said. The activists armed with automatic weapons ambushed three vehicles of 12th Bn CRPF coming here from Kangchup at about 0930 hours.
