IMPHAL, Jan 31 ? Manipur Government would provide maximum security with immediate effect to the state unit BJP President Th. Chaoba Singh following threat to his life by the militants, official sources said here Saturday, reports PTI. The decision to give maximum security to Singh, who has already been provided security under 'Z Category', was taken in a state Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh Friday.
Militants of separatist Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) had Friday termed Chaoba Singh 'an agent of Centre' and "an enemy of people" and threatened to kill him if he was not expelled from the party by February 15.
Official sources said the Cabinet meeting viewed the threat to Chaoba Singh very seriously. Necessary instructions have been given to chief secretary and director general of police to provide maximum security to Chaoba Singh, an MP from the state, when he returns from Delhi after attending the ongoing Parliament session.
Meanwhile, all offices of the BJP in Manipur have been closed down following the threat by KYKL militants, BJP sources said. The decision whether to open BJP offices or not would be taken only after the arrival of Chaoba Singh and other state BJP leaders from Delhi, party sources said, adding that the government has already provided security to BJP office here. KYKL in a statement had asked the BJP leaders here to close down all its offices till Chaoba Singh was removed from the party.
