BSF springs Manipur success story

Imphal, Nov. 30: The BSF, which has been in the forefront of counter-insurgency operations in Manipur, today said it had ?re-established? civil administration in Churachandpur and Bishenpur districts, where its troops are currently deployed.

The BSF was deployed in the state in 2000 primarily to counter insurgency in two districts following the withdrawal of army troops due to the Kargil conflict.

Initially, there were only six battalions, but two additional battalions were later deployed.

9 Adivasis massacred in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, July 15 ? Nine Adivasi camp inmates including four women and a children were killed and six others injured when suspected NDFB militants fired indiscriminately in the relief camp (Bhuraka-Maligaon) just 28 km way from Kokrajhar police station yesterday night at about 10.45 pm. The slain Adivasi camp inmates were identified as Fulmoni Kisku (25), F Hasda (32), Malbo Hembram (30), Fulmoni Hasdo (40), Rajda Murmu (33), Rupu Hasda (45), Suraj Murmu (13), C Hasda (20) and Uku Hasda (5).

Protest against BTC: Blockade hits rail, road traffic

GUWAHATI, July 15? The 24-hour rail-road-blockade called by Sanmilita Janagosthiya Sangram Samity (SJSS) from this morning in protest against creation of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) today disrupted surface communication on Lower Assam areas and parts of Karbi Anglong district.
