Police unearths ammunition from Assam

GUWAHATI, Jan 24 ? Even as the city police continued its city-wide raid and search operations in the run-up to the Republic Day celebrations on Sunday, it achieved a major success this evening by unearthing 55 rounds of assorted ammunition from the campus of the Assam State Zoo. Police sources said that a tip off was received about suspected ULFA cadres trying to conceal some arms and ammunition in the zoo campus. Govt finalises new power policy in Assam

GUWAHATI, Jan 24? Following Cabinet approval, the State Government has finalised its new power policy for the power sector. The policy, while recognising the imperative for reform and improving the supply of electricity services to the consumers in the State, provides for consumer orientation, competition in access to electricity, strengthening of the regulatory framework and restructuring of the present institutional structure in the State?s power sector, through functional unbundling of the ASEB into separate entities for generation, transmission and distribution in a phased manner.

Tripura PCC releases list of candidates

Agartala, Jan. 24: The Congress finally announced its list of candidates for the Assembly elections in Tripura today. The party has put up 42 candidates for the polls, having already allotted the other 18 seats in the 60-member House to its alliance partner, the Indigenous National Party of Tripura.

Tripura PCC president Birajit Sinha, who returned from New Delhi with the list approved by AICC chief Sonia Gandhi today, released the list to newspersons. All 13 sitting MLAs of the party have been re-nominated. The list contains 19 new candidates and six women.

Ultras free addl chief engineer in Manipur

IMPHAL, Jan 24? Kuki militants have freed Additional Chief Engineer, Irrigation department K. Ibotomba Singh who was kidnapped from Singhat area in Churachandpur district on January 20, official sources said today, reports PTI.

Militants belonging to Kuki National Army released Singh at an interior place in the district yesterday, the sources said.
