2 Ministers, DIG escape unhurt in Manipur ambush

THOUBAL, Jan 24? Two Ministers of State in the ruling SPF Ministry escaped unhurt when militants ambushed their convoy in Chandel district this afternoon. The incident took place at Thingkhanphai, a Kuki village around 12.30 pm when two Ministers K Ranjit (Minister of State for Agriculture) and D Karungthang (Minister of State for Social welfare) were on their way to attend a golden jubilee function of the area. The Ministers were also accompanied by the DIG of Manipur Police V Jathang when the well armed militants fired upon the convoy of the Ministers who went there is nine vehicles including seven vehicles belonging to the security personnel. The security also retaliated in the ensuing encounter which lasted more than one hour, K Ranjit who escaped unhurt along with his colleague Karungthang told The Assam Tribune this evening. No one was injured during the incident. Hearing the news, additional forces both from BSF and Manipur Police rushed to the area, police sources here said. Police is yet to establish the identity of the militants involved in the attack, till the time of filing of this report.
