Feasibility study on 2nd bridge near Guwahati city

GUWAHATI, Feb 8 ? The Planning Commission is likely to provide funds for the feasibility study for construction of a second bridge over the river Brahmaputra near Guwahati. Unitarian Union of NE conference ends

SHILLONG, Feb 3 ? The 103rd annual conference of the Unitarian Union of North East India got under way at the Unitarian Church, Madan Laban here on February 1. Unitarians from the north-eastern States, besides foreign delegates attended the two-day conference.

Special services and congregation meetings were organised to mark the occasion. Unitarianism was founded in the Khasi Hills on September 18, 1887, by Hajom Kissor Singh. It has an indigenous origin which conforms to the monotheistic belief of the traditional Khasi people.

Northeast fails to spend Central grant

Guwahati, Feb. 8: The state governments of the Northeast have failed to spend Rs 23 crore allocated over the past year under various schemes by the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment.

However, many schemes require matching contributions from the state governments, who are not in a position to disburse funds due to financial stringency.

Joint secretary in the ministry Rajwant Sandhu disclosed here today that of the allotted Rs 63 crore for the Northeast, the governments have utilised only Rs 40 crore. She said utilisation of funds in the current year is not very healthy either.
