Mizos celebrate Chapchar Kut

AIZAWL, March 15—Chapchar Kut, the greatest festival of the Mizos, was celebrated on Friday and in Mizoram it was declared as a state holiday where all the government offices and educational institutions remained closed.

Exuberant dancers danced to the tune of typical Mizo folk songs and modern songs performed by different cultural troupes from all over the state and neighbouring states like Manipur and Tripura at the Assam Rifles ground here.

EC extends time for completion of poll process in Nagaland

KOHIMA, March 15 — Election Commission has extended the date for completion of assembly election process in Nagaland from March 14 to 31, reports PTI. The Commission has withheld results of Arkakong and Kiphire-Pungro assembly segments after detecting gross irregularities during the last month’s polling for the general elections in the state.

Elephant treatment camps conducted

GUWAHATI, March 11 — The Early Birds has conducted a series of elephant camps for the departmental elephants of the wild life sanctuaries of the state during the last couple of weeks press release said. The 1st camp was held at Pobitora WLS on the January 18 where seven elephants were examined, treated for periodical deworming with appropriate doses, vaccinated for immunising them against FMD for the next six months.

Kiyanilie becomes Nagaland Speaker

KOHIMA, Mar 14—Kyanilie, a first time MLA from Western Angami Assembly constituency, was today elected unopposed Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. As Kiyanilie was the only member nominated to the office of the Speaker, the pro-tem Speaker Kuzholuzo declared him elected. Kiyanilie was elected to the Assembly on a Nagaland People’s Front ticket.

Earlier, the pro-tem Speaker administered the oath of affirmation to the newly-elected members of the House during the first sitting of the 10th Nagaland Assembly.
