Mizos celebrate Chapchar Kut

AIZAWL, March 15—Chapchar Kut, the greatest festival of the Mizos, was celebrated on Friday and in Mizoram it was declared as a state holiday where all the government offices and educational institutions remained closed.

Exuberant dancers danced to the tune of typical Mizo folk songs and modern songs performed by different cultural troupes from all over the state and neighbouring states like Manipur and Tripura at the Assam Rifles ground here.

State Chief Minister, Zoramthanga, was the ‘Kut Pa’ or father of the festival in the Kut function attended by C P Thakur, Unon Miniser for department of North-eastern Region (Doner), ministers, legislators and thousands of people including mediapersons from different parts of the country. Food festivals, music festivals, art exhibitions and handloom and handicraft exhibitions were held to attract domestic and foreign tourists.
