Mizoram group upholds demand

Aizawl, Dec. 10: A group which claims Mizos to be a lost tribe of Israel has said it would continue to fight for an independent homeland for the ?Mizo Israelites?. ?We know people are laughing behind our backs for calling ourselves one of the 10 lost tribes of Israel and fighting for an independent homeland. But we will persevere and in God?s appointed time, shall be successful in our endeavour,? Imphal, December 10: A new political party, named Humanist Party of India, New Manipur State Council has been formed during a meeting held at Sangeet Natya Mahavidyalaya, Takhellambam Leikai today. The Humanist Party of India is a registered political party and has its base at Mumbai. The meeting attended by around 50 persons was presided by retired IAS officer Ch Ibohal. Mizo MLA agrees to pave way for bypoll

Aizawl, Dec. 9: The Independent candidate who won the election in Mizoram?s Suangpuilawn constituency has promised to resign immediately after being sworn in as a legislator to pave the way for a ?free and fair bypoll?. H. Lalsangzuala, who was declared the winner of the seat yesterday, made the commitment this morning in an agreement with the Hmar People?s Convention, which had backed him, and the Central Young Mizo Association. He agreed with the two organisations that the election in Suangpuilawn had not been free and fair.
