36-hr bandh begins in North Cachar Hills

Silchar, Feb. 4: The North Cachar Hills district in south Assam is reeling under a 36-hour bandh, which began at 5 am today. The bandh was called by the newly-formed Dimasa Youth Forum (DYF) to protest against the Centre?s delay in initiating peace talks with Dima Halam Daoga to wrap up the decade-long hostilities in the district.

Come clean on charges, NSCN told

Imphal, Feb. 3: Manipur?s Opposition combine, the Democratic People?s Alliance (DPA), today appealed to the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) to substantiate its charges against the Speaker and two cabinet ministers in the sensational Elizabeth murder case.

The NSCN (I-M) had accused the leaders of having a hand in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Lungnila Elizabeth, eight-year-old daughter of taxation minister Francis Ngajokpa.

Cellphone users fume over BSNL

Kohima, Feb. 3: The Prime Minister?s dream of launching mobile services in Nagaland has turned sour with customers fuming over BSNL?s poor connectivity and billing. Mobile phone services were launched in the region by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on October 27.

Moreover, the customer care node machines, which will link the capital and Dimapur with Shillong, are yet to arrive from the supply point, BSNL sources said. They were scheduled to be installed by December 27. The news that the installation may take a few more weeks has left the customers fuming.
