NE insurgency within manageable limits

SHILLONG, May 1 – The problem of insurgency in the north eastern region of the country is within ‘manageable’ limits of the security forces, newly appointed Director General of the Assam Rifles, Lt. Gen. Bhupinder Singh has said. “The level of insurgency is well below the threshold,” Lt. Gen. Singh, who assumed office as the new Director General of the elite para-military force at the Directorate General Assam Rifles (DGAR) Headquarters here on Friday, observed.

ULFA cadres hiding in Garo Hills: Singh

SHILLONG, May 1– Cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) are hiding in the jungles of the Garo Hills in Meghalaya, Assam and Meghalaya Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajai Singh has said. “We are aware that ULFA cadres, on the run following counter-insurgency operations in Bhutan have sneaked into the Garo Hills from Assam and have been hiding there,” Lt. Gen. Singh said during a brief interaction with the media after being sworn in as the Governor of Meghalaya at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong on Saturday.

Govt tells Bangla to give details

NEW DELHI, April 30– India has asked for details of the recent arms seizure in Chittagong even as Bangladesh reiterated its claim about presence of wanted terrorists and criminals in the country. The five-day Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) talks that started on an uneasy note yesterday saw both sides engage in claims and counter claims. Arunachal outfit joins no-poll cry

Dimapur, April 30: The election scene in Arunachal Pradesh turned murkier with the militant National Liberation Front of Arunachal backing the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU)’s call for a boycott of the Lok Sabha poll to protest the inclusion of Chakma and Hajong refugees in the electoral rolls.
