Spotlight on entry permit after murder

Aizawl, May 18: Leaders of various Mizo organisations today made a case for strengthening the inner-line permit system, which regulates the entry of visitors, and lessening the state’s dependence on labourers from outside the state. Huge AR seizure of ultra materials in Manipur

IMPHAL, May 18 – Troops of 13 Assam Rifles based in Chandel district under the supervision of Brigadier R N Bhattacharjee, commander of 10 Sector seized a huge quantity of materials belonging to an underground outfit operating in the State.

The seizure of the underground material took place during a search operation conducted by the troops of the 13 Assam Rifles in and around the Phuchong village in Chandel district bordering Myanmar on Sunday, a late report of Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) said here today.

Girish Chowdhury passes away

GUWAHATI, May 18 – Celebrated thespian Girish Chowdhury passed away at his Ulubari home at 9-20 am today. Chowdhury, among the pioneers of co-acting on stage in the State, was also at the forefront of popularising stage drama in the State for well over four decades. He had been suffering from old-age ailments for some time and was discharged from the Guwahati Medical College Hospital only yesterday. He was 83.

Jamir vetoes Rio bid to join Cong

Kohima, May 17: Nagaland PCC president S.C. Jamir has stalled the plans of chief minister Neiphiu Rio of supporting the Congress-led government at the Centre.
