IMPHAL, May 18 – Troops of 13 Assam Rifles based in Chandel district under the supervision of Brigadier R N Bhattacharjee, commander of 10 Sector seized a huge quantity of materials belonging to an underground outfit operating in the State.
The seizure of the underground material took place during a search operation conducted by the troops of the 13 Assam Rifles in and around the Phuchong village in Chandel district bordering Myanmar on Sunday, a late report of Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) said here today.
The statement of the PIB further stated that the search operation which was conducted under the code name ‘Operation Talash’ took more than 5 hoursw to complete. The seizure list of the operation includes a huge quantity of uniform (camouflage), rations, medicines, magazines, ammunition, IED circuits, radio setes of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), it added.
Meanwhile, Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) in a statement expressed strongly against the deployment of additional security forces only at Sajik Tampak, one of the major stronghold of underground outfits, on the pretext of demolising camps of an insurgent organisation while keeping a closed eye on the other camps of other groups located in different parts of the State.
The move smacks of discrimanation on the part of the Indian government, it said and added that is an open secret to all including the Indian government where the camps of the various insurgent groups operating in Manipur are located. But targetting only Sajik Tampak at the cost of peace of normal life of many innocent villagers living in the remote area while giving free hand to cadres of another underground organisation to carry out extortion and looting of passengers along both the National Highways 39 and 53, smacks of discrimination.
