Fresh hopes for Pagladiya dam

New Delhi, May 26: Four years after it was approved and efforts were made to kickstart the scheme, the Pagladiya dam project has been identified as one of the “three problem areas” faced by the Union ministry of water resources. Newly-appointed minister of water resources Priya Ranjan Das Munshi said, “The Pagladiya project has been earmarked as one of the three projects that are problematic which would require careful handling by the ministry. NSCN puts Cong at ease on peace talks

New Delhi, May 26: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) today congratulated the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance on its ascent to power in Delhi. He said the Naga community was banking on the new government to take the peace process initiated seven years ago to its logical conclusion. “We warmly congratulate the new Congress-led government. Pitch raised for new tribal belts

Kokrajhar, May 26: The Kokrajhar District Tribal Sangha has demanded creation of new tribal belts and blocks on plains of Assam. In a memorandum to Dilip Singh Bhuria, chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes, the tribal body also demanded eviction of “illegal encroachers” from the existing tribal belts and blocks in the state.

The memorandum said largescale influx of Bangladeshis and other non-tribal people of the state into the existing 45 tribal belts and blocks in the plains has made the tribals a minority in their own land.
