Wild elephant depredation at Marangi: Forest dept inactive

GOLAGHAT, Jan 4— Depredation of the wild elephants is becoming a common feature at Marangi Revenue circle within Golaghat district. A herd of wild elephants have been continuously damaging dwelling houses and standing crops of the people of the area since 2000. The elephants have so far killed more than 30 people and this has made the people of Fallangani, Fulbari, Balizan, Porajanghal Thuramukh, Kdoju and Symraipur areas spend sleepless nights.

Cong-INPT seat-sharing issue in Tripura settled

AGARTALA, Jan 4— Opposition Congress and its tribal ally Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura at last reached a seat adjustment agreement at a meeting in New Delhi last evening.

The final adjustment was reached at “17+1” formula which means INPT will fight it out in 17 ST reserved seats and one general in the next Assembly elections. HIV +ve woman gets home, hope in Assam

Guwahati, January 3: To get a roof over her head, Jahnavi Goswami had to go where no HIV-positive person in Assam has ever gone before: into the glare of the public eye.

The 27-year-old, the first person in the state to go public with her HIV-positive status, was given a house to call her own by the state government today, seven years after she was thrown out by her in-laws and refused housing by three landlords who told her they didn’t want ‘‘such a person around’’.
