Only 1,501 foreigners deported under IMDT

GUWAHATI, Jan. 9 – Though the Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani recently stressed the need for deporting the foreign nationals illegally living in the country, the number of foreigners detected and deported from Assam came down drastically since the Illegal Migrants (Determinations by Tribunals) IMDT Act came into effect. However, the decision of the Government of India to issue multipurpose photo identity cards to all Indian citizens would check fresh influx from Bangladesh.

Assam Special Reserve Force men threaten ‘mutiny’

Six BSF jawan killed in encounter at Sajik

Imphal, January 09: Heavy fighting has been reported at Sajik Tampak between MPLF and BSF personnel resulting in the death of six personnel of BSF including a Captain. Sources said Captain Vivek Saxena from Lucknow was among the six BSF personnel who perished in the exchange of fire which took place at Sajik Tampak area, about 100 kms from here.
