Tripura outfit joins boycott chorus

Agartala, Jan. 22: The powerful but rival militant outfits, the National Liberation Front of Tripura and the All-Tripura Tiger Force, have made their stands clear ahead of the Assembly polls in the state in February.

The NLFT has already revealed its animosity towards the ruling Left Front, systematically killing tribal leaders and workers of the CPM. Sources said the killings are part of its programme to help the outfit?s alleged political front, the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura, garner tribal votes through intimidation.

Steps on to divert phumdis to Manipur River

Imphal, January 22: To remove the phumdis which have got a strangle hold on Loktak lake; plans are afoot to divert the phumdis to Manipur river through a canal to be constructed at Tera Khunou Khong Ahanbi in Mayang Imphal Assembly constituency. Earlier the phumdis were diverted towards Khordak river when the major rivers of the State are in spate and when the water level of Loktak rises appreciably. The formal round of negotiations between the Union Government and the NSCN (IM) got underway here today, even as the Central Government has shelved plans of immediately appointing a political interlocutor. FCI Dy Dir kidnapped, 8 rescued in Manipur

Imphal, January 21: The personnel of the border security forces have rescued eight individuals including senior officials of the food corporation of India from the clutches of the kidnappers near Khongkhang along the Imphal Moreh road this afternoon. Indo-Myanmar joint trade committee soon
