Cong releases list for Nagaland polls

KOHIMA, Feb 4 ? The ruling Congress in Nagaland has announced names of its candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections in the state slated for February 26, reports PTI. The list of candidates for all the 60 Assembly constituencies was released at a function held at the Congress Bhavan in Kohima, on Monday.

KARIMGANJ, Feb 4? Tension prevails in the campus of NEEPCO at Umrangsu of NC Hills district following the threat given by the DHD outfit. DHD extremists now demanding 20% from the salary of the employees of NEEPCO as annual tax towards formation of Dimaland. DHD has been collecting taxes from the salary of the employees. Khonglam denied ticket

Shillong, Feb. 4: The Nationalist Congress Party has denied Meghalaya chief minister F.A. Khonglam a ticket to contest the Assembly elections slated for February 26.

The general secretary of the NCP?s Meghalaya unit, Fearless Warjri, told newspersons today that Khonglam?s application had been rejected. ?The NCP high command has approved the decision taken by the state election committee sometime back,? Warjri said.

Assam returns licensed arms

Feb. 3: Firearms deposited with Assam police during Operation Rhino in 1990 are being ?conditionally released? to their owners.

Though the Assam government has yet to officially announce any change in its policy on private ownership of firearms, it has reportedly decided to return weapons stocked in the police malkhanas because of an improvement in the law and order situation.
