Missing boy's last rites held in Manipur

Imphal, Feb. 24: The cremation and shradh ceremony of Yumlembam Sanamacha, who went missing six years ago after being taken away by the army, were held today. After a fruitless wait of six years, the class X student’s parents — Jugol Singh and Arubi Devi — gave up all hope that their beloved son would return someday. They cremated their son on February 17 and observed the shradh ceremony as per Vaishnavite rites and rituals on Sunday.

Since not a single part of Sanamacha’s body has been found by the bereaved family, a body was carved out of a log of wood and cremated with religious rites...

25 held for Borjhar attack

Guwahati/Shillong, Feb. 24: Angry over the administration’s failure to prevent the audacious mortar attack on the Indian Air Force base at Borjhar, defence minister George Fernandes has sought a detailed report on the incident and said that Dispur had some explaining to do about lapses in security.

Fernandes made the statement in Shillong even as Assam police rounded up 25 people for interrogation and recovered a mortar left behind by the militants involved in the attack last night.

NDBF vows to carry on with struggle

CID to chargesheet 4 SULFA men in Moran massacre

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 – The State CID will file chargesheets in court against four surrendered ULFA (SULFA) militants allegedly involved in the killing of 12 of their associates and injuring 10 others at the Moran Polo Club of Upper Assam in 2001, a top police official said here today.
