Tripura massacre toll 33

AGARTALA, May 8 — The toll in the death dance by insurgent groups in Tripura rose to 33 today with two persons succumbing to their injuries at the GB Hospital here in the wee hours today, police said, reports PTI. The two — Suradhani and Sanjoy Sarkar were among the six injured in the shootout Wednesday by the banned All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) at Satcharri, a border village of West Tripura district which claimed the lives of 19 others.

Naga ?quit notice? on Bangla migrants

Guwahati, May 8: Alarmed by the apparent change in Nagaland?s demography, a youth organisation has served ?quit notices? on Bangladeshi migrants in the state.

Neighbouring Assam, for which illegal migration is an even bigger problem, has sounded an ?alert? along the inter-state border to prevent the fleeing migrants from entering its territory.

The anti-migrant campaign in Nagaland, which police say has been launched by the Kohima-based Lisami Youth Organisation, follows the Union Cabinet?s decision to repeal the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunal) Act, which is in force in Assam.

Peace moves on with Ulfa, says Mizo CM

New Delhi, May 8: Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga has said serious efforts are on to bring the Ulfa to the negotiating table as part of a larger process to establish peace and stability in the Northeast.

?Though I have not yet been able to establish direct contact with any of the Ulfa leaders, we are trying to make them sit for dialogue. The intelligence agencies are also trying for a breakthrough while I am contributing to the process as much as possible,? the chief minister told The Telegraph.

Glitch over BTC Bill in Parliament

NEW DELHI, May 7 – In an unexpected last minute glitch, the proposed Bills for amending the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution paving the way for creation of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), is unlikely to be passed in the ongoing Budget Session, as it is likely to be forwarded to Parliamentary Standing Committee. An adamant Congress today stood its ground refusing to allow its passage in the Lok Sabha without referring it to the Standing Committee on Home Affairs, despite hectic lobbying by the two Bodo MPs and BJP members. The Bills are likely to be tabled in the Lok Sabha here tomorrow.
