UPDS calls for war on Kukis

Nagaon, Dec. 2: The Karbi Anglong and N.C. Hills People?s Resistance (KNPR), the armed wing of the anti-talks faction of the United People?s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), today threatened to purge the district of all Kukis. Declaring open war against the Kuki outfit, the UPDS said its operation would end only after the last Kuki village was uprooted from the twin districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hiils. The UPDS claimed that Kukis had migrated to the two districts from neighbouring Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.

ULFA forging links with Nepal Maoists

GUWAHATI, Dec 2: Even as the ULFA has found for itself a new foothold to inch its way back to the popularity charts by targeting the Bihari community in the State, there is increasing evidence that it is forging close links with the Nepalese Maoist rebels and setting up bases in the Himalayan kingdom. MNF wins Mizoram polls

AIZAWL, Dec 2: The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) today secured a simple majority by winning 21 seats in the 40-member Mizoram Assembly, while the Congress secured 12 out of 38 results declared so far today, reports PTI. Only one more result is yet to be declared. Counting for the Suangpuilawl constituency, which witnessed kidnapping of three candidates in the November 20 election, was not taken up as the Election Commission was yet to take a decision. Chief Minister Zoramthanga was returned victorious from both Champai and Kolasih constituencies.

No Tripura town to be on other side of fencing: BSF

AGARTALA, Dec 2: BSF Inspector General Alexander Daniel has categorically said that no town or habitat of Tripura will fall in the other side of the barbed wire fencing being erected in the Indo-Bangla international border, reports PTI. The IG was commenting on the contention of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar that if the fencing was constructed according to present norms, at least three subdivisional towns of the State ? Kailashahar, Belonia and Sahroom ? very close to the zero line, would be on the other sine of the fence.

New CRPF school to combat militancy at Dayapur

SHILLONG, Dec 2: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which has achieved remarkable success in anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir, has set-up a counter-insurgency school in Assam?s Dayapur to teach its own personnel combat operations, reports PTI.
