Dawki, Dec. 15: Two years after Pyrdiwah, a border conflict of similar proportions is brewing near Dawki. Thousands of Bangladeshi boatmen have transgressed into a disputed area 150 yards from the Zero Point in Meghalaya and are trying to make further inroads with the Bangladesh Rifles? backing. Some have entered parts of Dawki and nearby Rongkhum.

The infiltrators were recently spotted collecting boulders from Dawki Khal with Bangladesh Rifles personnel deployed across the border keeping watch. The BSF reacted to the intrusion only after learning that a group of journalists were witness to it...

Assam Govt responsible delay in Pagladiya project

Deserters join Lapang ministry

SHILLONG, Dec 15 ? In a day of fast-moving political developments, the NCP today split and joined the ruling Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to be rewarded with four ministerial berths. With the split, the ruling MDA?s strength goes up to 49 in a house of sixty. NCP which had 15 members including an associate member has been reduced to nine as six of them formed a new group called Meghalaya NCP. The new faction has extended support to the ruling coalition. The BJP has two members in the house.

NCP split jolt to Sangma

Shillong, Dec. 15: In a jolt to Meghalaya strongman P.A. Sangma, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) split in the state today. Chief minister D.D. Lapang today scored over his arch political rival, the former Lok Sabha Speaker, by first breaking up the NCP and then inducting four of its members into the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition.

Led by Cyprian R. Sangma, six NCP legislators today announced their decision to break away from the NCP and form the Meghalaya Nationalist Congress Party (MNCP).

Lalchamliana elected Mizoram House Speaker

AIZAWL, Dec 15 ? Former minister of state for finance, environment, forests and taxation Lalchamliana was elected Speaker of Mizoram Assembly unopposed on the first day of the session of the newly-constituted House here Monday, reports PTI.

Lalchamliana was declared elected unopposed by Protem Speaker R Khawpuithanga and was escorted to the Speaker?s chair by Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Opposition Leader Lal Thanhawla.
