Consensus nominees for Naga party

Kohima, Jan. 19: The Nagaland People?s Front (NPF), which leads the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), has decided to go in for consensus on candidates for the forthcoming elections to both Houses of Parliament.

At a marathon meeting held over two days, the party decided to resolve the question on parliamentary elections through parleys within the ruling coalition. ?We have agreed to a consensus,? said NPF leader and finance minister K. Therie. Earlier, the municipal elections in the state had caused bad blood between the NPF and the BJP.

Call centres to advise farmers

Kohima, Jan. 19: In case the first call in her newly constructed cubicle tomorrow afternoon is from Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, agriculture specialist Amenla of Nagaland?s agriculture department is ready with the answers. She is one of 30 specialist ?respondents? in the eight states of the Northeast, including Sikkim, of the Kisan Call Centres (KCC) to be inaugurated throughout the country by Vajpayee tomorrow.

Manipur outfit lauds NSCN

Imphal, Jan. 18: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) today came in for praise from a banned militant group of Manipur for capturing the person suspected to have masterminded the abduction and murder of minister Francis Ngajokpa?s daughter Lungnila Elizabeth.

Arunachal opposes poll panel order

Itanagar, Jan. 18: Political parties in Arunachal Pradesh have united against the Election Commission?s decision to suspend electoral activity in four Assembly segments of the state until the impasse over the inclusion of Chakma-Hajong refugees in the voters? list ends.

An all-party delegation will visit New Delhi shortly to urge the political leadership to pressure the Election Commission into reviewing its decision. Chief minister Gegong Apang will lead the team.
