Young trekkers retrace the walk by Edward Clark in 1872

Kohima, Feb. 13: Ancient time in Nagaland is often measured by the year Edward Winter Clark, the first Christian missionary to ever set foot in the state, landed in a village called Molungkimong.

It was an arduous trek that Clark and his wife Mary took, a 60-km walk from Sibsagar, now Sivasagar, through dense forests to reach the Naga village in 1872. The villagers never forgot the favour and came up with an idea to commemorate the walk.

They sent messages to all those interested in the mission walk and as 51 young pilgrims made a journey from Amguri in Assam to Molungkimong village last week...

Manipur students burn textbooks

Imphal, Feb. 13: Volunteers of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (Desam) today burnt textbooks published by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, for Classes I to V in protest against the ?flaws? in them. Desam has been demanding rectification of the ?mistakes and misleading lessons? in the textbooks written by local experts and published by the board for this year?s academic session.

When their demand for publication of fresh books was not fulfilled, they collected books from different sources and burnt them in front of Imphal College here this afternoon.

Differences among partners of Opp surface in Manipur

66.15 pc polling recorded in Garo Hills districts

TURA, Feb 13?The final tally of Thursday?s polling for GHADC election has been officially put at 66.15 per cent in the three districts of Garo Hills. South Garo Hills recorded the highest turnout of voters, 67.75 per cent, followed closely behind by West Garo Hills, 65 percent, and East Garo Hills 63.70 per cent. Barring Tura constituency others recorded high turnout ov voters crossing the sixty percent mark.

50% voter turnout in Sangma test case

Shillong, Feb. 12: The three autonomous district council elections in Meghalaya, billed as a testing ground for Meghalaya strongman Purno Sangma, registered a 50 per cent turnout today. Polling was by and large peaceful without report of any major untoward incident, police said.

The only incident that was reported was the death of seven persons in an accident near Puriang under Sohrynkham constituency in the East Khasi Hills district.
