Mizo women edge past men

Silchar, March 7: Mizoram has added another feather to its cap ? it has emerged as a state where women voters outnumber their male counterparts. The revised electoral rolls for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state show that women voters have edged past their male counterparts by 2,272. Of the 5,50,232 voters in Mizoram, there are 2,76,252 women and 2,73,980 men.

Nagaland to breed bison

Kohima, March 7: Nagaland has planned captive breeding of mithun, the wild bison found in the hilly reaches of the Northeast, and set up state-of-the-art abattoirs to process and package the meat for marketing.

ONGC gets Hoho nod to dig for oil

Kohima, March 5: The decks have been cleared for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to begin oil exploration in Nagaland with the tribal organisation, opposed to the activity, finally giving a green light. The tribal Lotha Hoho, whose writ runs large in the oil-rich Wokha district, was opposed to the oil giant resuming operations in the area.

Guwahati beeps on Bangkok radar to renew flight link

Guwahati, March 5: Bangkok Airways may well fly into the space vacated by Air-India in the Guwahati-Bangkok sector.

Assam industry minister Bhubaneswar Kalita disclosed that the airline has evinced interest in connecting the city with the Thai capital. ?A delegation from the airline will visit the state next month to carry out a feasibility study of the sector,? he said here last night.

The minister said he and a delegation of the Federation of Industries of North East Region (Finer) had held preliminary talks with officials of Bangkok Airways at Yangon last month.

Imphal, March 5: Having conquered the hearts of music lovers of Manipur, Salam Sophia, who is compared with the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar, for her sonorous voice, is all set to enrapture the south Indian film and music lovers.
