AASU plans to amend its statute

GUWAHATI, May 7– The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is planning to amend its constitution to extend the term of the executive bodies to two years from one year as the organisation has not been able to hold the annual elections on time for a long time. Imphal, May 7: The army has moved into Sajik Tampak, a small valley in Chandel district that was home to militants belonging to various outfits till April. NEC grants Rs 9.42 cr to AAI, BRO

SHILLONG, May 7 – The North Eastern Council has sanctioned over Rs 2.87 crore to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Rs 6.55 crore to the Border roads Organisation (BRO) for carrying out infrastructure development in the region, reports PTI. The AAI was sanctioned the money as ‘on account’ payment of grant for incurring an additional expenditure on improvement of the NEC sponsored airports in the region during 2003-04. The scheme was being implemented by the AAI.

Dispur orders probe into textbook scam

Guwahati, May 7: The Assam government today ordered a probe to determine why textbooks meant for free distribution among students had failed to reach the respective schools. The move comes at a time when the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has launched a monthlong agitation, demanding streamlining of the education system.
