Maestro blames ‘complacency’

Guwahati, May 13: Bhupen Hazarika today lost to Bhupen Hazarika, at least that is what the music maestro thinks. Accepting his defeat to the Congress’ Kirip Chaliha “sportingly”, the BJP’s star candidate tonight said that “complacency among the grassroots workers” had led to his loss in Guwahati. “They (the party workers) thought that there was no need for campaigning as Bhupen Hazarika is contesting. That made the difference in the ultimate analysis,” Hazarika told The Telegraph.

Congress wrests Inner Manipur parliamentary seat

IMPHAL, May 13 – Dr Thokchom Meinya of the Indian National Congress (inc) has succeeded in wresting the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha polls from three times sitting mp, Thounaojam Chaoba of the Bharatiya Janata Party (bjp) by a landslide margin. Chaoba, a former Union Minister of State for Sports, had been elected as mp thrice on a Manipur State Congress Party (mscp) ticket. He also won the same seat on a Congress ticket in 11th Lok Sabha. But he was defeated this time.

Meghalaya returns two incumbent MPs

SHILLONG, May 13 – Meghalaya has reposed its faith in two MPs of the dissolved Parliament with both, Purno Sangma, the All-India Trinamool Congress leader, and Congress nominee PR Kyndiah retaining Tura and Shillong constituencies respectively, reports PTI. Sangma, who contested from his home constituency – Tura – for the eighth time in a row now, defeated his Congres rival Mukul Sangma in a straight fight by a margin of 72,763 votes.
