Army fined for custodial death

Imphal, June 03: The Gauhati High Court has asked the Army authority to pay Rs 1.5 lakhs as compensation for killing a person identified as T Moni (34) at Tonsen Lamkhai after being arrested by troopers of 14 Sikh Light infantry in 1998. Justice SK Kar issued the verdict on May 10 following a petition filed by father of the deceased T Saikhupngam of Tonsem Lamkhai village under Sugnu police station in Chandel district. NEDFi cuts prime lending rate

Rs 1.70 cr to boost NE border trade approved

GUWAHATI, June 3 — In a bid to give a boost to the cross border trade between India and Myanmar, Commerce Ministry has approved Rs 1.70 crore to the Longwa trade point of Nagaland. The funds has been approved for development of township and improvement of the existing roads in the area. Rio bid to skirt downsizing law

Kohima, June 2: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio has led an 11-member delegation to New Delhi in a last-ditch effort to avoid downsizing his ministry in accordance with the constitutional amendment that stipulates that the size of a government should not exceed 15 per cent of the Assembly’s strength.
