Accord must fulfil hopes: BLT

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 17 — As soon as the euphoria of the signing of the memorandum of settlement (MoS) between the Central and the State Governments and Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) comes down, the leaders of the BLT and other Bodo organisations will have to concentrate on proper implementation of the accord for fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of not only the Bodos but of all sections of people of the proposed Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

ABSU gives up demand for separate State

BONORGAON (Kokrajhar), Feb 16— The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) today formally withdrew the movement for the creation of a separate State of Bodoland following the signing of the accord between the Central and the State governments and the Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) for the creation of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) under the provisions of the amended Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India. Publicity drive for Bodo pact

Feb. 15: The Tarun Gogoi government has set in motion its publicity machinery to negate fears among the non-tribal communities that their rights could be compromised in the Bodoland Territorial Council.

The government today directed the deputy commissioners of Lower Assam to give maximum publicity to the latest Bodo accord. Copies of the pact signed on Monday was faxed to the seven deputy commissioners for circulation of its contents among the masses, said home commissioner B.K. Gohain.

Delhi lines up steps for N-E border security

Guwahati, Feb. 14: The Centre today announced a series of steps to seal the porous Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam, but the All-Assam Students? Union (AASU) said the NDA government had yet to display the level of seriousness required to stop infiltration.

Tea tribes people will suffer due to creation of BTC

GUWAHATI, Feb 14 ? Joining the anti-Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) bandwagon, the Assam Tea and Ex-tea Tribes, Youth Association today said far from solving the existing problems, the BTC will complicate the matters and lead to more disturbances. Lower Assam bandh peaceful

GUWAHATI, Feb 14 ? The 36-hour Assam bandh called by the Sanmilita Janagosthiya Sangram Samity, Assam, in protest against the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) agreement passed off peacefully throughout lower Assam today. The bandh was total and spontaneous, claimed the Samity in a statement. The bandh had begun at 5 pm yesterday and will end at 5 am tomorrow.
