Rally in protest over dam construction

IMPHAL, Jan 23 ? A huge rally across Tamenglong district of Manipur would be taken out tomorrow to protest against the proposed construction of multi-crore Tipaimukh dam at the trijunction of Manipur, Mizoram and Assam, Committee Against Tipaimukh Dam (CATD) said today, reports PTI.

The CATD said in a statement that rally, public meetings and processions would be organised in the district to protest against the proposed dam for which a memorandum of understanding had been signed by the Manipur Government and North Eastern Electrical Power Corporation recently.

Steps on to divert phumdis to Manipur River

Imphal, January 22: To remove the phumdis which have got a strangle hold on Loktak lake; plans are afoot to divert the phumdis to Manipur river through a canal to be constructed at Tera Khunou Khong Ahanbi in Mayang Imphal Assembly constituency. Dam opposition gather storm in Manipur

Imphal, January 22: Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has registered its strong opposition to the construction of Tipaimukh dam by contending that the proposed dam would harm the land and the people for generations come. Resistance hurdle for Tipaimukh

Imphal, Jan. 12: At a time when it appeared that all hurdles in the way of the Tipaimukh project had been cleared, a group persistently opposing the power project is now preparing a resistance movement against the dam. Lifeline for Loktak

Imphal, Dec. 22: Manipur?s most famous tourist destination, Loktak Lake, is set to get a new lease of life.

The Okram Ibobi Singh government has constituted a 16-member committee to suggest ways to develop Loktak, which happens to be the largest freshwater lake in the eastern region.

Imphal, July 15: Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing today informed the Assembly that the Centre is yet to give clearance to the 1500 megawatt Tipaimukh Hydro Electric Project.
