'We joined SPF on no-POTA condition'

Imphal, April 06: The Democratic Peoples' Party has clarified that they have joined hands with the Secular Progressive Front led government after assurances from the SPF that it would work in the interest of the people and the move is in no way related to the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The elected members of the DPP, N Biren and Dr Meinya when contacted told IFP that the party has joined the government after the SPF invited them and a memorandum of understanding was signed. The SPF in the MoU has assured to take the initiative for removing black laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and pledged not to implement the recently Parliament passed POTA in the state. The MLAs said they will pull out from the alliance if the SPF failed to fulfill the MoU that it signed. The MLAs also said that no front or alliance can influence them in the Rajya Sabha elections and they would cast their vote in the interest of the people of the state. The party also said that they have pulled out of the Opposition front Democratic Peoples' Alliance and joined the ruling side in the interest of the people and with an expectation of implementation of their agenda by the ruling front. Stating that some senior politicians in the DPA played communal politics, the DPP said it believed in social polity and did not want to involve in communal politics. The party also appealed for public cooperation in the development activities taken up by the government.
