IMPHAL, February 7: Some underground organisations in Manipur have started smuggling narcotic drugs, particularly heroin, after they faced problems extorting money from the people, a top police executive said, reports PTI. The Additional Director General of Police (Manipur), C Peter, told reporters quoting Intelligence reports here on Monday that a hill-based underground organisation and a powerful valley-based guerrilla organisation were now smuggling narcotic drugs from across the border and sending them out of the region. He said that the underground outfits smuggle narcotic drugs from Tamu (Myanmar border town near Moreh) at the rate of 150 kgs per month and send them out of the region through their network. They use the profits for purchasing arms and ammunition. Peter said that the ultras sell these substances at Rs 150 lakh for 150 KGs in metros and at Rs 150 crore in international markets. He said that steps were being taken to prevent smuggling at the border.
