Thousands greet Bodo leaders at Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 11 ? With the arrival of the Bodo leadership at Kokrajhar College field at 3.40 pm by a helicopter from Guwahati, thousands of people greeted the delegates, with the highest degree of enthusiasm for successful signing of the BTC Accord in New Delhi on February 10 last. Addressing the gathering Sri Hagrama Basumatary, the chairman of BLT and signatory of the BTC Accord exclaimed with joy that the signing of the accord would have the path for the Bodos of BTC to have a stable and strong future. Sri Rabiram Narzary president, ABSU assured the gathering that signing of the accord had been made possible only because of true support of the Bodos and non-Bodos of BTC area. Sri Mainao Daimary, publicity secretary, BLT while responding to the felicitation said the BTC Accord must not be misunderstood to be the victory of a few individuals or leaders but a victory of the common masses. Sri UG Brahma MP, RS addressing the mammoth gathering said that maximum care has been taken to protect the rights of non-Bodos in BTC area.

Our Nalbari Correspondent adds: About a thousand activists of Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT); All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Bodo People?s Action Committee (BPAC) and Bodo Women Welfare Forum (BWWF) today gathered at Barama in Nalbari district to great the Bodo leaders who returned from Delhi after signing the much-awaited Bodo Accord for formation of BTC. The activists coming from Tamulpur, Mussalpur, Baganpara, Dhamdhama and Kumarikata, in bus and trucks assembled here and erected a gate in front of Barama High School and greeted the leaders.

Our Udalguri Correspondent adds: ?We have come a long way to get this Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and now we are very happy with the outcome but less jubilant for we have a great responsibility to shoulder the new duty,? said Balendra Brahma, president of Udalguri Anchalik Committee of All Bodo Students? Union (ABSU). The ABSU leader added ?The BTC Accord has paved the way for peace and prosperity in our area.? Hemen Das, secretary of Udalguri regional unit of All Assam Students? Union welcomed the accord on BTC and said that it should shower peace and development in the area.

Our Staff Reporter adds: Meanwhile, different political parties and organisations of the State have welcomed the signing of the accord with the BLT. The State unit of BJP welcomed the accord and said that the accord was possible due to the efforts of the Central Government headed by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. The United Revolutionary Movement Council of Assam, on the other hand, opposed the accord and termed it as an undemocratic step by the Government.
