GUWAHATI, Dec 1 ? The office-bearers of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association today met the Chief Justice of the Court to register their protest against the transfer of Justice Gopala Gowda from Karnataka to Guwahati. Apurba Sarma, general secretary of the association, told this Correspondent that Justice Gowda was allegedly named in a sex scandal and he was also named in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in this regard. He said that a general meeting of the bar association will be held tomorrow to decide on the future course of action to be taken by the advocates to oppose the transfer of Justice Gowda. The association has already launched an agitation in protest against the transfer of scam-tainted judge Amarbir Singh Gill to the Gauhati High Court. Meanwhile, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has strongly opposed the transfer of Justice Gill and Justice Gowda to the Gauhati High Court. In a memorandum to the President of India, Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Lawa and Justice, AGP vice-president Dilip Kumar Saikia alleged that the Centre was using the north-eastern region as the dumping ground of unwanted persons. He said that the transfer of two tainted judges to the Gauhati High Court is an insult to the people of entire region. In a separate memorandum, the AGP urged upon the Supreme Court to revoke the transfer orders of Justice Gill and Justice Gowda.
