RPF praises revolutionary contributions by women

Imphal, March 07: The underground Revolutionary People's Front, RPF, in a message to the women of Manipur on the occasion of International Women's Day, has lamented that while the movement for emancipation of women has made considerable progress in developed countries, in South Asia and Africa, women remained oppressed and have not benefited from the fruits of the movement. Emphasizing the need for the womenfolk of the state to pursue with vigor the movement to emancipate themselves from the present dispensation of oppression, the women's wing of the outfit in a statement said placid inaction would result in another five hundred years of oppression. The outfit identified the steps needed to be taken by the womenfolk of the state as first, to seek an escape from the restricted existence imposed upon the people of the state by Indian rule, secondly, to rid Manipuri society of the all corrupting factors It also emphasized the need for womenfolk to spread health awareness in order to ensure a healthy society and to protect it from scourges like HIV/AIDS. Women's organizations also needed to be strengthened to openly pursue their rights and overcome the challenge of that section of society which looked down upon women, it said. It also urged for taking a stance against the involvement of womenfolk in the state in the machinations of Indian politicians.
