PREPAK leader nabbed

Imphal, July 03: The home secretary of the underground People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, PREPAK, Tourangbam Brojeshwor alias Nanao, 38, of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai, was nabbed by the Imphal west district police today. A police statement said the PREPAK leader was caught while coming out from the League of the Fourth World People Kangleipak Computer Centre at Keisamthong after preparing several demand letters addressed to various officials of the state government on the letterhead of the PREPAK's finance department. According to the statement, there were altogether ten demand letters, with amounts varying from two to three lakhs, the total being Rs 27 lakhs. Other documents giving details of accounts of collection from March 15, 2002 to May 2, 2002 and expenditure from February 28, 2002 to May 3, 2002 were also seized from his possession. It said two savings account passbooks, one of Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd and another of Allahabad Bank, both in Brojeshwor's name, were seized in follow-up action. The balance in the Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd account was found to be Rs 7,38,452 and that in the other account Rs 73,273. As per Brojeshwor's confession, these are the collections on behalf of the PREPAK, the police said. According to the police, it was also brought out that the computer centre from where the PREPAK leader had been arrested was financed by the PREPAK. Six computers were seized from the centre, some of which were found to contain incriminating information and data relating to the PREPAK. The proprietor of the computer centre has absconded, and efforts are being made to arrest him, the police said. Meanwhile, the League of Fourth World People, Kangleipak, has clarified that it has no direct connection with the computer centre from where the PREPAK leader has been picked up. The organization, in a press statement said the computer centre happened to be located next door to its office and its only connection was that it had hired the computer centre for printing the seminar papers of the Indigenous Brothers Meet organized by it in book form.
