Nagas shower praise on Jamir over post of Goa Governor

KOHIMA, July 4 ? Various individuals and organisations have congratulated former Nagaland Chief Minister and senior Congress leader SC Jamir for the reported move to appoint him as governor of Goa and urged him to continue his service for welfare of the Nagas through his wisdom. In the event of his assuming office, Jamir would be the second Naga after Hokishe Sema being appointed to the gubernatorial post by the new UPA government as per his wish to stay outside the state politics for "sometime".

State Governor Shyamal Datta congratulated Jamir and wished him a good health. Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) said Jamir's appointment would be a booster for the upcoming generation of leadership and hoped that his over 40 years of public life would benefit Goa in achieving all round development.

Jamir is on a three-day tour of his home district Mokokchung accompanied by party leaders and attended felicitations. He also attended morning services today both at his native village church of UNGMA and Mokokchung town church, party sources said. Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), said the party hoped he would guide Congress leaders in the state to steer the party in right direction.

Nagaland People's Front (NPF), the major coalition partner in the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), in a statement here congratulated Jamir saying the Centre's choice had brought pride to each and every Naga. Describing Jamir as one of the tallest leaders in the contemporary Naga public life, NPF secretary general Chubatemjen said his service to the Naga people as well as to the nation during the last 50 years would remain unsurpassed. During his felicitation at Mokokchung, Jamir came down heavily on prevailing gun culture in Nagaland and called upon people for finding a democratic solution to the vexed Naga issue at the earliest.
