Mawlong move to boost rural economy

SHILLONG, March 7: The Meghalaya Chief Minister, EK Mawlong, has informed that stress is being given to the construction of rural roads in the State so that the economic lot of the rural people could be improved and developed, an MIPR release said. Speaking as the chief guest at a public meeting held at Majai about 90 kms from here, on February 13, Mawlong also informed that it is his endeavour to visit every nook and corner of the State so that he could learn and hear first hand about the grievances and problems faces by the people of the State and also to monitor the progress and the implementation of the various schemes and projects being carried out by the Government for the welfare of the people. Pointing out that the State as a whole is very rich in natural resources, Mawlong called upon the unemployed educated youths particularly the engineers to come together and set up appropriate industrial units in the State so that employment avenues would be opened up. Advocating that the youth should not be biased in taking up any vocation as their means of livelihood, Mawlong urged the youth to be the main instrument and be the pivot for maintaining peace and tranquality in the State and also to stay clear of any kinds of trouble making and other disruptive activities which might affect the socio-economic fabric of the State. Terming the Ichamati Bholaganj road as one of economic importance, Mawlong called upon the PWD authorities to improve the condition of the road so that this particular road could give more efficient service to the local people. Later in the day, Mawlong witnessed the final match of the football tournament organised by the Majai Sports and Cultural Club where the Lyngngar Sports Club beat Kolya-XI by 5 goals to nil.
