Manipur ultras ?punish? errant officials

IMPHAL, Jan 19 ? Close on the heels of "punishing" the Director of Education (Schools), two other officials of Manipur University who were allegedly involved in the 'marks tampering' scandal that rocked the State, have been meted out some treatment by the members of the ibed 'Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup' (Oken group). The two officials of Manipur University have been identified as Associate Professor of Computer science Department of the University Oinam Imocha (47) of Langthabal Kunja Awang and head of Computer centre and system Manager Moirangthem Jugeshwor (50) of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak, both residents of Imphal West. They were shot on their legs by the armed members of the banned KYKL (O) at CI College road in Bishnupur district around 6-30 on Sunday night on alleged charges of corruption, manipulation and tampering of marks in the university. Sources said Imocha took bribe for admission for the MCA course while Jugeshwor was involved in the tampering of marks in the university. Both of them surrendered to the outfit on January 12 and 10, following a warning given by the outfit. A spokesman of KYKL (O) told newsmen before giving the 'punishment', that the two officials were directly involved in corruption, manipulation and tampering of marks in be university. He further added that capital punishment was spared as both of them confessed their crimes and surrendered to the party. Jugeshwor was allegedly directly involved in the present mark tampering scam that has rocked the entire State since the past couple of weeks. He changed the marks of one Oinam Solomon of Sayang Kuraomakhong in Imphal west for admission in the MCA course. Marks of two more students were also increased some 12 years ago, the spokesman of the outfit said. Imocha confessed that he took Rs 10,000 from one person working in Moirang College in Bishnupur district for his daughter's admission to MCA course in 1999-2000. Besides he also took Rs 8000 from an employee of Churachandpur branch motor vehicle department for admission to the MCA course, the spokesman added.
