NEW DELHI, Nov 21 ? Jnanpith awardee Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami, who is trying to broker peace talks between the Government of India and outlawed ULFA, has resented the killing of ULFA cadres by the Army. Reacting to the recent incidents, Dr Goswami said that at a time efforts were on to start a peace process, the gruesome killings by the Army was uncalled for. The cadres could have captured alive and put behind bars, she said.
The Delhi University professor said that she got herself involved only after ULFA gave her to understand that they would keep off violence when the peace process was on .?The killings by the Army have apparently angered them and certainly does not augar well for the peace process? she claimed.
The killings reportedly took place in Goalpara and Nalbari. Bikash Baruah was allegedly killed by Army in Goalpara yesterday, while body of another cadre, who was slain by the Army in Nalbari early this week, was not handed over his family.
His parents, who went to claim his body, had to return empty-handed after the Army told them that they had cremated it already. These incidents have angered the ULFA leadership, Dr Goswami said, adding that someone from the outfit had called her to express their disappointment.
