IMPHAL, Dec 18 — Underground Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) hasclaimed responsibility for the December 8 ambush in which three police personnel, including Sub-inspector H. Ibomcha Sing, were killed in Ukhrul district, reports PTI. In a statement here, KLA ‘spokesman’ Malshom Vaiphei said the attack on the patrolling party led by Ukhrul Superintendent of police Manglemjao Singh at New heaven area was carried by cadres of KLA. While Manglemjao Singh had escaped unhurt, three police personnel were killed and three others received grievous bullet wounds, official sources said. The sources said the government was considering deployment of heavy security forces at New heaven-mahadev lamkhai area in the district to curb militant activities.
Jawan killed : A Manipur Rifles jawan was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at in this town in Chandel district bordering Myanmar on December 15, police sources said.
The jawan of the 8th Manipur Rifles identified as June Khan posted here died instantly after being struck by a hail of bullets. He belonged to Sangasiyumpham Nungphou Bazar of Thoubal district. The subdivisionsal officer, Moreh, K Tomba Singh, searched the area with a police team, but failed to find the gunmen.
