IMPHAL, April 23: An intelligence officer who recently returned to Imphal after serving a long time in Ukhrul was today shot down by a lone assailant at Dingko road Dewlahland in broad daylight. Deputy field officer of Special Bureau (SB) Imphal branch, BK Mishra 35 of Bihar was coming out of a privately owned telephone booth at Chingmeirong when the assailant who came in a three wheeler got down and shot him two times before leaving the scene without much ado towards Lamlong bazar. Mishra received a bullet on his head and another on his back. The incident took place at around 2:15 this afternoon. Sources said that Mishra, who was staying at a rented house at Dewlahland, was making a call to his wife and children at Delhi at the Copycat PCO at Dewlahland, apparently, to inform of his plan to return to Delhi following his transfer. Eyewitnesses said that the assailant followed Mishra for a while on foot after getting down from the three-wheeler before shooting him down. Mishra died on the spot. The dead body of Mishra has been transferred to RIMS mortuary for post mortem. A case has been registered with the Imphal East police station. High ranking police officials including DIG Khoute, SPs Imphal East and West conducted spot inquiry after the incident.
