Gogoi allocates portfolios: New ministers get key berths

GUWAHATI, June 9? The Chief Minister, Sri Tarun Gogoi, today allocated the portfolios to his expanded team of Ministers by trimming the portfolio of all the senior Ministers, while giving some key portfolios like Industries and Education to several of the newly inducted Ministers. The Chief Minister has kept with himself the key departments of Home, Finance, Tourism and Culture and all other departments not specifically allocated to any other Minister. He has also trimmed the portfolios of several senior Ministers including Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Sri Sarat Barkataky, Dr Hemoprova Saikia, Sri G C Langthasa, Sri Rameswar Dhanowar, Sri Devanand Konwar, Sri Bharat Narah, Dr Ardhendu Dey and Sri Hemprakash Narayan.

Dr Bhumidhar Barman, who was the Minister for Health and Panchayat and Rural Development, has lost his Panchayat and Rural Development portfolio, while the Excise portfolio has been taken off from Sri Sarat Barkataky. Sri Devanand Konwar has lost his Finance and Revenue departments, Sri Bharat Chandra Narah will be minus his Flood Control portfolio, Sri Hemprakash Narayan lost his Education portfolio, Dr Dey lost his Food and Civil Supplies portfolio and Sri Dhanowar lost his Labour portfolio.

Sri Anjan Dutta, who has been elevated to the rank of a Cabinet Minister, has retained his Transport portfolio. Among the newly inducted Cabinet ministers, Sri Bhubaneswar Kalita has been allocated the key portfolios of Industries and Commerce and Public Enterprise, while Sri Pankaj Bora has been made the new Minister for Education and Implementation of Assam Accord. Sri Mithios Tudu gets the Revenue portfolio, Smt Rupam Kurmi Labour and Employment Department, Sri Nurzamal Sarkar the Flood Control portfolio and Dr Nazrul Islam gets the Food and Civil Supplies department.

Among the Ministers of State with Independent charge, newly inducted Minister Ripun Bora gets the key department of Panchayat and Rural Development, while Sri Pradyut Bordoloi gets Forest. Sri Robin Bordoloi is the Minister in Charge of Relief and Rehabilitation and Sports and Youth welfare. Among the newly inducted Ministers of State, Sri Rakibul Hussain gets the key portfolios of Home (Jail and Home Guards), Border Area Development and Passport. These departments were with Sri Pradyut Bordoloi before the expansion.
