Imphal, February 17: The two factions of the underground Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, KYKL have reunited, bringing to an end a long and bitter feud that has cost dozens of lives. The two factions, one led by Namoijam Oken and another by Achou Toijamba had split in 1996. The two leaders, in a joint statement issued in this regard, acknowledged that the split had occurred due to a misunderstanding, and that it had caused serious harm to the public. The joint statement said the decision to reunite keeping in mind the urgent need for unity among all underground groups in Manipur and the north east region, and the fact that past transgressions have to be forgiven for the sake of the people. The two leaders also pledged that they would not allow a split to occur in the party again, and to place public interest before personal interest. The statement also states that with the unification of the two factions from today onwards, a state of emergency has been declared in the party as per the provisions of the party constitutions. It adds that an adhoc central executive committee, chaired by Achou Toijamba and Keisham Yaima as general secretary has been formed to exercise leadership over the party until the next party congress is held. Further a military commission headed by Namoijam Oken and Toijam Ibochou has also been formed. It will exercise control over the armed wing of the KYKL, the Miyamgi Yawol Lanmee, MYL, it added that the provisions of the party constitution that do not conform to the agreement arrived at between the two leaders will be suspended until the next party congress. It further stated that the financial demand notes issued by the party to the public will bear the signature of the KYKL?s deputy finance secretary, Keirungba Khuman.
