DWCD talks out plans for NE states

GUWAHATI, July 4 ? The Department of Women & Child Development (DWCD) released an amount of Rs 158.71 crores for NE States and Sikkim in 2001-2002. During the year, significant initiatives were taken up for the region. These include: A special proposal for construction of Anganwadi Centre in NE States, under the Integrated Child Development Service Scheme of the Department was processed for Rs 60 crore to make good the shortfall in constructed Anganwadi Centres, and Rs 30 crore released in 2001-2002, stated a release. The Department approved expenditure of Rs 1.33 crore for opening of three Women Technology Parks for the north-eastern States. Under the skill upgradation and economic empowerment schemes of the Department (Women?s Economic Programme and Support to Employment and Training Programme), funds to the extent of Rs 5.76 crore were released in 2001-2002, including additional reappropriation of Rs 1.56 crore. Additional funds of Rs 0.15 crore were released specially for creches in north-eastern States. Special programmes on Nutritional Awareness and Education were developed in local languages for dissemination in states of the NE region. An amount of Rs 220 crore have been earmarked for NE region for the year 2002-2003.
