DAN move to implement CMP

KOHIMA, March 16 — The State Government has said its utmost priority is to implement the Common Minimum Program (CMP) of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) in letter and spirit. It is understood that State Chief Secretary, RS Pandey, in a circular, has already directed all departments to formulate “action plan” for “implementation of the CMP” of the DAN Ministry in the State.

The Chief Secretary also asked all departments to come prepared in this regard for discussion as to how the CMP would be implemented in the monthly meeting for Secretaries and Directors, which is to be held on March 20 this month. It may be mentioned that the CMP of the DAN was formally released during an NPF sponsored public rally here on January 31 by Union Defence Minister, George Fernandes. The CMP of DAN was a basis for the non-Congress alliance parties to give service to the people if they were voted to power.

The securing of a “negotiated settlement of the Indo-Naga political problem acceptable to the people; to set up a Political Affairs Committee to work fulltime to usher in peace and settlement; to provide transparency in decision-making; corruption free governance; to do justice to the people and to decentralize the powers to the villages and executive officers were some of the agenda highlighted in the CMP.

The CMP also highlighted as to how proper funding should be given for the overall success of projects and schemes, besides paying immediate attention for the welfare measures of family members of the insurgency related victims, health care for all and a time bound program for completion of the ongoing construction of the Referral Hospital and Kohima Civil Hospital.

The CMP also gave importance to human resource development, information, technology, e-governance, sports, eradication of unemployment, women department, communication, natural resources as a thrust of economy, exploring market to export organic vegetables to employ farmers and educated un-employed specially those of unemployed agriculture graduates, enhancement of meat production, providing of high tension transmission, improvement of tourism and substantial investment in building infrastructure, etc.
