Chaoba elected MSCP president

IMPHAL, March 24: The Union Minister of State for food processing and hitherto Working President of Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP), Thounaojam Chaoba has been 'unanimously' elected as the party president as per the rules of the constitutions of the party by its members. This was announced by the State Returning Officer (SRO) of the party's organisational election, T Ibochouba at a jam-packed delegate session of the party held at the Durga Puja hall of Babupara here this morning. The Returning Officer also announced the names of members of party delegation and one president each of the nine districts of Manipur. The newly elected MSCP president, Chaoba was called upon the dais and handed the election certificates amidst thunderous applause from the gathering. As per schedule, the delegate session of MSCP to elect its president and other organisational heads was to be held in the conference hall of the State Guest House at Sanjenthong. But following a petition filed by ex-MLA, Laishom Lalit, a loyalist of MSCP-Nipamacha group, expressing fear of an impending clash between the two factions, Imphal West District Magistrate promulgated CrPC 144 around the premises of the State Guest House this morning just before the commencement of MSCP presidential elections. As a result, the venue of the election was finally shifted to the Durga Pujah pandal at Babupara. Thanking the party workers for having reposed faith in him as the party president Chaoba reiterated that the election procedure was done according to the constitutions of the party and the directive given by the Election Commission of India. Meanwhile the MSCP (Nipamacha group) today organised a function to felicitate its president and ex-Chief Minister Wahengbam Nipamacha at the temporary office set up at the residence of the ex-MAHUD minister and MLA P Achou at Nagamapal here.
