NEW DELHI, June 10 ? The Central Government today tried to assuage the peeved Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) leadership by assuring expeditious clearance of all formalities before the forthcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament to pave the way for constitution of the interim Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). A meeting of the Accord Implementation Committee convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) here today reviewed the implementation of the Bodo Accord.
The two-round meeting, chaired by Rajeev Agarwal, joint secretary (North-east) jand attended by State Home Commissioner BK Gohain and BLT leaders here today, however, did not go into details on the controversial issue of demarcation of boundary. The crucial issue of division of villages was left on a three-member committee comprising representatives of the Home Ministry, State Government and BLT to resolve.
Sources in the Ministry said that the Central Government has assured the BLT that formalities would be cleared in a time-bound manner to ensure that the pending Bills are presented before the Parliament during the Monsoon Session. The two Bills, including the Constitution (Ninety-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2003 and the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2003 tabled by Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani on the last day of the Budget Session, have been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee of his Ministry for clearance. Sources said that the two Bills are expected to be shortly taken up by the Parliamentary body for discussion.
