BSF personnel killed in CCpur attack

IMPHAL, January 25: Some unidentified armed UGs gunned down a jawan of the Border Security Force, BSF this rnorning at around 10:30 am at Churachandpur New bazar along the IB road. The deceased was identified as constable Jalgapei Devraji, 22, hailing from Andhra Pradesh. According to reliable sources, the deceased, along with other BSF jawans were out marketing at Churachandpur New Bazar in civil dress when the incident took place. The sources said some unidentified UGs shot him down at point blank range at his chest and head. He died on the spot. The sources added that his assailants managed to escape. Following the incident, the Churachandpur police and BSF personnel posted in the area carried out search and frisking operations along the Tiddim road in the Churachandpur area. There were no arrests. In a separate incident, at least five constables of the 112 bn CRPF posted at Awang bazar, Loktak project under Moirang police station were injured after one of their colleagues opened fire aimlessly this afternoon at around 3:40 pm at their post, according to reports reaching here. The reports said while the several CRPF constables were playing volleyball inside their post at Awang Khul Loktak project, one of their colleagues, identified as Rao, of the same post suddenly opened fire with his service SLR, resulting in injuries to five of the players. The injured personnel are identified as Sambhu, 26, Birendro, 26, Kakuriya, 26, Sakjan, 35 and Chamalal, 30. They were evacuated to RIMS hospital, where they are reported to be out of danger. Constable Rao was in the meantime subdued by the rest of the CRPF personnel at the post.
